2002 Pontiac Grand Am Blinker Problem?

Every now and then my blinkers won't work on my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. I use the switch but nothing happens. The arrows don't flash and the clicking sound doesn't come on so I checked outside the vehicle and nothing is happening there either. It will do this for a little bit and then they will just start working which makes me think its not a fuse problem. What else could be the problem?

I had a similiar problem on a 2004 Ford Econoline E250, it turned out to be the flasher unit itself. The old flashers were thermally controlled, the new ones are electronically controlled. If its the new style, the contacts may be sticking. I would start with replacing the flasher unit, that should solve it. Hope that helped.
