My car just started acting up today. It started up fine and ran as usual, but once it warmed up it started acting up. I would give it gas to accelerate and it sped up real slow, and wouldn't shift, I then floored it and it finally jumped up in rpms and shifted after I pumped the gas pedal. Then on the highway it wouldn't hold the speed and then all of a sudden it would only go 30-40 mph and if I floor it, it just revs up in rpms but does not accelerate. Any ideas what wrong, and guesstimate on repair cost. Is an 02 grand am gt 3.4L GT V6.
Is automatic transmission

have the fluid and filter changed to see if that cures the problem but you may have already burnt out the trani. Have you ever serviced the transmission before?

i would suggest replacing your shift sylenoid... my 00 GA 2.4 auto trans is doing the same thing, there is still hope for your tranny, the shift sylenoid runs off of the pressure from the oil circulation in your trans, if youve never changed the filter and oil on your trans it could have clogged the sensor and its getting a false reading and wont allow you car to shift .. the sensor for my car was 29 buck from autozone.. its putting it in that poses the great challenge
