I have a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire with a radiator leak. In searching for a replacement radiator, I note that two options are available - the right side (passenger) hose connector is generally at the bottom of the radiator, however, in some cases it is at the top. Since the car is out of state, how can I tell which radiator configuration will fit? Would it be based on the VIN?

If you look at www.gmpartsdirect.com you first have to establish whether it's an automatic or a manual transmission. Then you have 3 engine choices, early would be a 2.2 OHV, late would be a 2.2 ECOTEC DOHC, and you have the 2.4 DOHC. The owners manual on page 6-64 shows the eigth character in the VIN which indicates which engine.

I think my sunfire's radiator looks funny... Google the heck out of it, and if all else fails, take a trip up to autozone- they can give you all kinds of information, even if you dont buy anything. I think they're all mechanics in the closet =P
