2002 wont start,by pass anti thieft?

Neighbor boys grand am wont start the mechanic said he thinks its anti thieft overiding how would you fix this??mechanic said dealer but this kid cant afford this.how can i help him needs his car for job at burger king. Thanks for any help Rick ncpa

Is the security light flashing with the key on? If it's a passlock issue, you can fix it by doing the procedure outlined here:GM Passlock Security Fix

I've had a similar issue. What I did was I put my key in and turned it to accessory and left it there for about 15 minutes. Then I was able to start my car and the security light would go off
