2003 grand am c1233

Hey guys, new to the fourms. A few days ago the SES,ABS, and trac off lights came on. I had the car scanned and recieved the c1233 code; RF wheel speed circut. Is it time for a new bearing/abs sensor? and if so, should both front bearings be replaced? I'm thinking about doing the labor myself, just looking for some input. Not only new to the fourms, but also to Pontiacs! -D

Typcially for that issue you just replace the failing hub.

Would it be wise to replace both front hubs at the same time? i don't see the use in fixin' whats not broken, but then again it could be close behind!

Update:// Replaced both of the front hubs today. Took my time, torqued the bolts to spec, ect. When i started up the car the codes were gone! ... ten seconds down the road they were back. When the vehicle starts there are no longer codes, but once the vehicle is in motion they kick back on after a few seconds. Which leaves me to conclude a possible short in the sensor wires or a faulty hub assembely. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? could use a second set!

look again at the connectors and the wire itself, the wire is a very small gauge and can break inside the insulation. Look at the connectors at the ABS pump also.

Got the car rescanned and recieved the same code; c1223. I'm going to go ahead and order a replacement ABS harness and hope to god that it isnt the EBTCM or whatever type of mechanisim the grand am has. I was planning on following the harness to figure out where it plugs into, but if you could provide me with the location that would be appretiated.

Hopped under the car today and the right abs harness feeds into a larger one. How would i go about checking the continuity of the existing harness before replacing it?


edit:// Could probably unplug the harness at the engine bay, and check for resistance from the sensor. would need a pinout to know which pins coralate with the RF speed sensor though. Anyone know?

There is a specific voltage reading you should be getting at the connector. Dont remember what it is but you could try google or a Hanes manual.

I went ahead and replaced the harness and sure enough it solved the problem! The wiring fed into a larger wire and was quite out of my reach so i had to leave a little of the old harness. Sodered/taped up my connections and wala! Appretiate the responses melsg5, kept me lookin in the right direction!
