2003 Montana AC issue

When using the AC rear control from the front driver panel and then shutting the van off, the rear ac blower continues to run? Killed my battery and am trying to jump it now to see if it's truly a battery or what. My wife just mentioned that the ac blower was running without the key in the ignition. Any suggestions? It's a 2003 Montana.

It sounds like a relay is sticking in the closed position. Look in the passenger compartment fuse box for a relay marked for the ac system

OK.. The wife hit the rear ac on accident again and the battery was completely dead. Took it to Auto Zone again, and it was dead. It wouldn't take a charge so I ended up getting a new battery. When the key is out of the ignition sitting on the seat, the yellow light for the air flow (for lack of knowing what to call it).. the one where it will pull air from outside or circulate air continues to stay on all the time. If I pull back on the ignition itself it will go off but ends up coming back on at some point. With the key out the front ac and rear ac will continue to run if I turn them on while that yellow light is on. If the light is out, it won't run. I pulled fuses and they looked fine. When I pulled the relays (big gray box) on the passenger side of the van, the front blower would stop running but that yellow light stayed on. when I pulled the fuse that said RR HVAC BLOWER it would stop but yellow lights stayed on.

I'm afraid that yellow light is gonna eventually wear the battery down? I wouldn't think it has that much draw off the battery as long as the blower is not running, but any other suggestions would be great. Should I just replace all the blower fuses and relay anyway?

One more thing I just thought of. If I go out to the van right now that yellow light for air flow will be on and the ac blower wll run. If I leave the keys out of the ignition and twist back on the ignition switch, like I'm turning it off, that light will go out and the rear ac blowers don't blow. I do have to pull back on the switch pretty hard though. Could it just be the ignition switch?

If I push like I'm gonna start the van without the keys in it, the light will not come on right away. It takes a few minute but the yellow light eventually comes on and the blowers will start blowing if in the on position.

it does sound like you have a bad ignition switch, without the keys in nothing electrical should happen when you move the key cylinder.

Thanks melsg5. Now, when I looked up ignition switch I get all kinds of stuff. Wires, switch's with keys, etc. Am I actually looking at the switch with the keys? Thanks for the help. I really appreciate the replies.

You have to determine if the lock cylinder is worn out causing excessive play or whether the problem is with the switch that the lock cylinder activates. If you have a local automotive lock smith they should be able to advise on the condition of the lock cylinder.
