2003 Pontiac Sunfire Fuel Pump Issue

Car would not start, did not hear hummmm of fuel pump so I beat on the tank and the car starts. Put in a brand new GM fuel pump and car dies again a week later, beat on the pump and car starts again??? I have read that a lot of other people have had a similar issue with this car. Has anyone found a solution. I seems like a failure with wiring connection. I'd really hate to keep trying random things.

With this new pump, do you still not hear it turn on while trying to start the car? If so, it may be a bad fuse (found in the engine bay fuse panel) or just bad wiring.

On a side note, did you replace the fuel filter anytime in the past few months? Could just be getting bad/no gas to the injectors if you can hear the pump...
