Ok, so im going to start off by saying that I am using an android phone,& apparently I cant use the search button (the search field disappears once i tap to type).
Also, im new!! Just got my 03 sunfire a few days ago & am starting the journey of automotive!!
This will be my first "project", not just om this car, but fhe first ever!
Ok, so I plan on buying a new stereo for my car. As of now, it has the standard double din pos in it, & I plan on getting the $79.99 XDMA6370 sterio from walmart. I looked a bit into wiring & all of the requirements, ie: getting a harness (which apparently it is recommended that i get a metra 71-1858) & crimp the harness & the cable that comes with the radio (is this what they call an adapter?)
Right off the bat, without even having the two items in my hands, ive noticed that the color scheme of the sunfire doesnt match up with the diagram of the new stereo, for example, in the XDMA6370 manual (found online as pdf), it states that front left speaker positive wire color is WHITE, & the sunfire diagram says its TAN..
ALSO: I've been reading up on a ton of unexperienced "n00bs" running into light / chime issues & are told to use a module that retains all that good stuff. I think the part they were recommending was a metra GMOS-04 (or gvos,i cant remember what its called).
Is that supposed to be plugged into the stereo harness, & then the module harness connected straight to the stereo adapter? More info on this would be appreciated as well
To my understanding, the metra harnesses job is to simply protect the oem harness, & in order for the radio & the dash / key / chimes to work, the wiring has to match color by color.
What can be done about this situation, is there some information i may be confused by or simply missing?
All opinions are more than welcome& greatly appreciated!
