Just starting to modify my car, i was wondering if anybody had some pointers on the motor itself it's a 2.2L DOHC Ecotec. I have the cold air, super chip, exhaust, strut bars, ceramic breaks, drilled rotors, and 17' rims with Falken tires now i want to giver' on the motor. Does anybody have any pointers on where to go first? cam maybe? i know my way around cars well enough any pointers would be sweet!

Well, I am not all too familliar with the Ecotec yet other then the fact that it is on hell of a stout little motor.

However, I do have a question for you, you say you have a cold air intake... Do you actually have a CAI, or is it just a pipe with a filter on it that is INSIDE the engine bay without a heat shield? I just want to make sure that you actually have COOL air comming into the engine instead of HOT air from under the hood.;)

warm Air ...

Iit's a K&N Typhoon intake with just a pipe from the throttle body... so i guess its a warm air intake :S... any tips?

Being that it is a K&N, I would think that it would have a heat shield, unless it is not vehicle specific. Most vehicle specific systems have a shield / box to keep out the hot engine and radiator air.

if the filter is just sitting open in the engine compartment, you should see if there is any way to make a shield up to keep some heat out. It doesn't have to be the prettiest thing out there, check mine out...

I have tested it out and found that that shield made a 50* difference in intake temp while driving, and I made it out of a spare outside door molding from my parts car. Of course, it could be better, but for free.... how can I complain. The biggest bonus to me though is now I can hear the supercharger whine like crazy.....

Sweet thanks for the tip

Ya i am going more for Performance, i thought about that when i installed it, the fact that the motor is right there bugged me, it made me think that it was probably sucking in warmer then normal air..
I am going to look for some sort of parts where i can build something like that, not bad by the way;) Here is a picture of my set up!

That doesn't look bad at all, but I bet you probably have LESS power with that intake on then the stock one;)

Can you get a pic from the passenger side of the car towards the drivers side where the filter and battery is? I am just wondering if there is a place to re-route the intake pipe. maybe it can be cut and re connected to route it for cooler air, but that might take some real thinking.....

I am sure that it is sucking in a bunch of HOT air right now, you will notice a big difference when you get some good cold airfow, I know mine made a HUGE difference, and it isn't anywhere near perfect:D

Intake modifications

Here are some pictures from the passenger side to the drivers side. There is also an overhead shot, I guess i basically need to close in my filter so its sucking air in front the side or down through the stock vent system?(Below my filter there is original stock pipe that Sucks cool air from inside the fender.

hmmm, I guess there isn't really much room there is there. I would try to shield it as best as possible, or look for a K&N intake for it ( or something similar )

Hmmm, thats wierd... usually all the K&N systems have a heat shield with them so that they don't suck in hot engine air...

I guess other then that, I would just look for a way to shield it from the engine air and try to get some cold air up to the filter.

actually, come to think of it, do you still have the stock air box? where does that pull in air from? Maybe you could mod the box to pull in cool air and fit that filter inside of it, or you could make up a shield and follow the intake tube to where the stock box draws in cool air.
