My light is burnt't out on my deck so I grabbed another deck out of a 2000 I believe. At least that is the year on the deck. and I plugged it in and am getting a locked signal on the screen. I tried buttons 1 and 4 , also 2 and 3 for the code with no luck. Does anyone know that if the original deck does not have theftlock, can I put a deck in with it?

Thanks,

Theftlock requires the radio to learn part of the vehicle VIN, believe a dealer is required to accomplish this.

Does this require the dealer to hook up to the computer or is there a sequence of things I can do?

to my knowledge they use a connection to the computer with a Tech II scanner but you can inquire with any local GM dealer

Totally unrelated, when is the right time to change the Timing chain on this car? I am about 150k now and it is my daily driver.

Thanks

If you hear no clattering noise when you start or when it is running, nothing to do. On the other hand if you just want to be ahead on things you could change it now, but I would not make it a must do if you have other financial considerations.
