My Boss has a 2004 Pontiac Montana that started having Trans. troubles, it would shift real hard and then got to where it would start surging. After several repair shop investigations and a trip to the local GM dealership, it was diagnosed to need a new transmission. After several months investigating and trying several different fix it forums, it was still shifting hard and began surging more. So the other day while driving he felt like the surging was being felt thru the gas pedal, so just to try it he disconnected the cruise control cable and no more surging or hard shift since. I am not a mechanic but he wanted me to post this for others that may be having the same problems, as he said worth the sacrifice to be without cruise control to save $3500.+!!!!
