2004 Pontiac Grand Am won't start. It has gas, lights, radio works. any suggestions?

I've had no major issues with my car since I purchased it in 2004 other than brakes. When I put the key in the ignition and try to start the car it sounds as if its not turning over
thanks...just got a new battery last year but I'll get it checked anyway...

gas would,nt keep it from turning over. you can have a dry tank and it still will turn over.probably the starter is bad.
