2004 pontiac sunfire turns off randomly

I have been having issues for some time now where my 2004 sunfire will randomly shut off while i am driving. for the past couple of days now it has happened many times i an afraid that my car may shut off and not turn back on. Also my gas gauge does what it wants to it floats around. I have reset it it with the fuse i could not tell you how many times. I really need to help any advise on what it could be?

How long has it been since you have changed the fuel filter? Have you had your fuel pressure checked?

i had my fuel filter changed about 2 months ago when i had a tune up. I have not checked my fuel pressure. How do i check that?

You need a fuel pressue gauge and you have to attach to the engine fuel rail. Do you have a check engine light on?

i will have to get a the gauge. No my check engine light is not on, but it does ramdomly come on out of no where and will stay on for about 4 days or so an then goes off.

Have the codes checked as well.

gas gauge doing whatever it wants may mean that your cluster is failing or malfunctioning. my cluster failed cause the tach, gas, and temp gauge was doing whatever they want. are any other gauges acting up?
