I have a 2004 Sunfire with 2.2L Eco engine, automatic. This car has had zero problems for the last 6 years of ownership.
Just recently my wife said it was accelerating on its own, so I took it for a drive. I found out that if you turned on the a/c it would rev up. In park at idle ~800 it would rev up approximately 200-400 RPM when a/c is turned on. In park at about 1200 RPM it would rev up to about 3000 RPM when the a/c is turned on. The a/c compressor doesn't seem to make any noise different then it used to. I measured duct temperature at 12.2 Celsius, which I'm told is normal. I checked for codes and found none.
I'm unsure where to go at this point. When the a/c is off it drives perfectly normal. When it's on it feel like it's on cruise control because of the higher RPM's.
