I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am that up until now has been wonderful. Last year my rear defrost worked on and off, whenever it decided to turn on. This year it doesn't at all. I push the button and no light comes on and no ice is melted. I push the A/C button in the summer, no light comes on and no cold air is blown out, but I am full on freon. Now that it is getting colder, I tried my heat, and I have no heat. The fan blows full force, but only to the temperature to what it is outside. I took it to a shop and they said they thought it was the temp control panel below (where the rear defrost and a/c buttons are, 1-5 fan speeds, temp knob, etc are) and that was what I thought it might be, maybe the unit crapped out. Got a new one, same problems. I have full coolant and no overheating. I'm pretty sure my fuses are good, but not sure about relays and whatnot. I was told if it was my thermostat I would get heat eventually, but I could run the car a day straight and not get any. I have 2 kids, both of which are under 3 so heat is a necessity, especially now that the temps here are dropping to the 60's and lower. The rest can wait if need be. Any possible suggestions? Any help is appreciated!

Have you considered taking it to a GM dealer for repair?

I have an appointment Friday at the dealership where I bought it, but who knows if they will find anything. Im hoping so though. Just wasn't sure if anyone else her had come across the same thing. I thought maybe there was an electrical short for the rear defrost and air conditioning since both worked last year but not this year. The rear defrost would sometimes work and sometimes not. Kind of strange. Im a computer guy, not a car guy so its all greek to me...
