Hey everyone,
My 2005 Pontiac Grand Am is currently stuck in neutral. It feels like the button you press on the shifter is stuck and won’t push in. The car is currently running and I can activate the parking brake so it isn’t going to roll anywhere, but I also cannot turn the car off or remove the key.

I am a college student so my access to tools is very limited. Is this a common problem? Is there a simple fix for this? Or am I better just calling a shop to pick it up? If that’s the case, do I just leave the car running in neutral with the parking brake on and wait for it to run out of gas? I have about a 1/4 tank left.

Any help you all can offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It's not a common problem.
Based on your description it sounds like a shifter problem opposed to a cable problem.
Look in the owners manual for the fuel pump fuse and remove it.
