2005 Sunfire Headlight Switch

I have a 2005 Sunfire.
Whenever i try to switch to High Beams i have no lights at all.
I have determined that the Turn Signal / Headlight Switch is faulty
I was going to order a new one (about $43 from A1Auto)
I found a video on how to replace this switch.
But in the video the guy pulls the steering wheel.

Is this necessary?
Do i really have to pull the steering wheel just to switch out the turn signal / headlight switch?

if you can figure a way to get to the bolts holdings the switch in without pulling the wheel go for it but more than one write up indicates the wheel has to come off
