At the rear of my van there are vacuum hoses hanging down at the compressor. One comes off compressor to a tee and connects to Frame fitting. The other from the tee has degraded (broke) and is hanging. They appear to be eaten up like fuel or vapor has gotten to them. I don't know where this one goes. I also have a code PO445 Major Vac Leak. Could the code be caused by this? Since they are degraded like old purge hoses, I thought they might go to canister. Thanks

If the hoses are connected to the compressor they are pressure hoses not vacuum hoses. It should be easy enough to put your finger on the end of the hose with the engine running to see if there is suction.

All you could do is find something negative about how I described the hoses? No offer of help of any kind? As I said they are regular vacuum hoses. They are not the small plastic lines that go to the shocks.

My intent wasn't to be negative but to clarify the difference between compressor pressure hoses which would have nothing to do with your code. If you have a hose that is disconnected from the evaporative system that can throw a code. So did you check if there is suction with the engine running on the hose in question? This link has a diagram of a 2001 evap system which should be similar to what you have. The P0455 says nothing about a major vacuum leak http://www.obd-codes.com/p0445

There is a vacuum looking hose connected to the compressor for either fresh air intake or when it exhaust air, I think it has a sponge like filter on the end of it. And mine was rotted out .

I think I have two problems. One with the hoses at the compressor, and purge system problems. With the hoses at the compressor I was just trying to find out where the hoses go. A hose comes off the bottom of the compressor then tee's. One side goes up to the frame. The other is rotted and broken so I can't see where it goes. Any help would be appreciated. I thought they might be associated with the purge system or canister but that wouldn't make sense. I was hoping to find a service manual online but have had no luck. On the other problem, I need to find the canister and check hoses there. My check gas cap light stays on so something in the purge system has gone phlooie or I have something sucking air. The cap is new.

Sorry about that and thanks for your help. My code was 0455 Purge system major leak. Now I've got to find the canister and check hoses. Gas cap is good.
