I have a 06 Pontiac Torrent and for the last few weeks to a month it studders and hesitates but ONLY when started... within a min once it warms up its fine so i never thought nothing of it until today.... Started it for the first time today and almost immeditlly the check engine light came on... My husband has a scan tool so i plugged it in and started the engine.... It came up with P0301 cylinder 1 misfire code... I did some reading up on that code and it said probley just the spark plug or wires.. but my truck only has around 44000 miles and the plugs shouldnt have to be changed until 100,000?????? Could it still be the plugs???? Maybe wires???? Please Help!!! Thanks!
I did read the owners manul... it said the plugs should be replaced every 100,000 miles not 80,000 and even if my truck only has 44,000 or so... and i dont have a distributor cap...

Exact issue

If anyone has an answer to this issue, please post soon...I'm finding this issue in many of the Torrents and Equinox's I see....I own an '06 Torrent and have the exact issue and I really don't want to dump unnecessary parts in it since I'm not wicked excited about this vehicle anyways and can't afford to go out and get something else..So, any response to this would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks

I get a similar thing happening with my '06 It has about 95,000 kms. Never had any check engine lights come up though, just the stutter when starting.

Not sure what the problem is either....

If the studder goes away shortly after start up, then you probably have a fuel injector that drips and floods that cylinder when the engine is shut down.
Have a fuel pressure drop test done on the injectors, or just have the injectors professionally cleaned.

I got a recall letter on my 08 torrent. They have a problem with the plug wire on no. 1 cyl.
I took it to a dealer, they changed the wire and pluig, no charge.
Try talking to the service manager tell him about the letter G M is sending out.
Sorry I don't remember the recall number.
Hope this helps.

My daughter has the same symptoms on her 2005 Torrent. Mechanic thought it was an injector leaking down. But he changed that. It is still doing the same thing. Hard to start, sputters getting onto Freeway. Check engine light P0301 Error is on steady now, but when I accelerated onto freeway check engine light started blinking until I stopped accelerating. The mechanic spent a lot of time on it and thinks it is a bad computer. I am taking it back for him to check out further. Will post my findings.

remove the plug and check for carbon tracking on the white part of the plug. also the spark plug boot. if there is replace plug and wire. also have that injector drop test done to not a bag idea, especially if there is no carbon on plug or wire

06 Torrent trouble starting and sputtering on the highway

I have a 2006 Torrent that has been having starting problems for the past 2-3 years now. A majority of the time it would start fine but the other times (20% or so) would take about 2-3 tries in order to get it started (not to mention that I have to push on the peddle a little to give it some gas). I took it in and they mentioned a possible fuel filter replacement and that that could take care of the problem. Wasn't fully convinced it was even that. Brushed it off and decided to mess with it later since I could still get from point A to point B ok. Later on it started chugging on the road when I was going around 50-65 mph. You floor it and it just dies out. Hmmm.

Well, I was in McDonald's drive through getting a coffee and the damn thing just died on me. I had to push it back to a parking spot and wait to figure out why it wasn't firing up. Need to mention that I have a 2 month old battery so I had no indication that that was the issue. The car sounded like it was trying to turn over and start but just wouldn't.

My buddy told me to go to O'Reilly Auto Parts store and borrow their diagnostic tester. Hooked it up and it immediately gave me an error: PO335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit. Ok. I purchased a new Crankshaft sensor from the dealership for $43. The dealership thought it looked like a bear to replace.

I took it over to my neighbor's house and w/in 15 minutes he had located the old sensor, pulled it out and put the new one in. Ever since, the car has been starting perfectly. Now, it's time for spark plugs and wires next.

I almost took my car in to just let them do it; however, this is something that is very simple to do. If you need some assistance, contact me. The internet is wonderful for saving money on stupid repairs like these. I'm not a car guy but watched my buddy change out the sensor and it was pretty easy. Take the wheel off, take off the plastic fender plate, slide under the car and you'll be able to locate the sensor. Saved me $165. Any questions, just let me know. I hope this helps others with the same problem.

There was a voluntary customer notification sent out in January 2011 (about) that the spark plugs and wires were having issues and they extended the warranty on those parts for 10 years/120000 miles. Unfortunately they cant tell you what is causing the issue and have indicated it could be a continuous problem.

We had the spark plugs and wires replaced in Dec 2010 and again two weeks ago (June 2011). They are claiming the only difference was putting some compound in the wire boots. But again who knows if the problem will continue again.

If you paid to have this repair yourself then contact GM and have them reimburse you the information.

And yes I have contacted GM, so if you are one of the GM lackeys watching these forums, dont bother contacting me. I am out here to spread the word to others who are having problems!

Do you have a copy of the notification that you could post? Thanks.

I found out the problem with mine...The head gasket needed to be replaced...42,000 miles and needed a head gasket...That says a lot for GM...I've been in the business for 32 years and cannot believe that GM would put out such junk. Between wheel bearings, struts, coil pack replacement, brakes, ignition lock cylinder, and now my EGR....Nick going GM...You really did it with this one...Also, their customer service is the poorest ever...Never..ever would I buy another GM..Just thought I would share that....Also I renamed mine as a Pontiac TORMENT............

Has anyone who had the p0301 problem ever figure out what the problem was? I have a 04 Grand Am that keeps giving me a CEL when cold and idles really rough when cold, runs great, but idles rough. Keep getting the p0301 code have changed plugs, wires and mechanic has done extensive testing and can find nothing wrong with the car. So knowing what you found with your vehicles might be very helpful. Thanks!!

Shyann,
I would recommend contacting your local dealer for more specific information. They should be able to provide you with a diagnosis and point you in the right direction. I can also locate a dealership in your area with your zip code. Please keep me posted. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
