My 2007 Pontiac Montana won't start without a boost. It has a new battery and clamps. Battery only shows 12 amp. Does anyone know what it could be? It just clicks when I try to turn it over.
what are you using to test the amperage of the battery? have you cleaned the positive battery connection that should be located near the radiator cap sometimes used to jump the vehicle.
It was just mentioned in a earlier post on a Montana. if you take this connector off make sure to disconnect the negative wire from the battery first.
The battery is brand new and the posts are clean. The clamps are new as well. It will start with a boost but no other way. If I charge the battery totally full, it may start 2 times. It just clicks the relay otherwise.
take some pictures under the hood pointing out what you have cleaned and serviced.
also take a general close up pictures of what it looks like under the hood.
post them here.
after the car is boosted what is the battery voltage with the engine running, it should be between 13+ to 14+. If you only get 12+ the alternator is not charging the battery.
same thing happened with my 2000. I cleaned the contact on the jump terminal. undid the nuts pulled it all apart and used a eraser and sand paper. I not only ties to the battery to jump start, it also is the batterys contact to the under hood fuse panel
