2008 sv6

My pop found a 2008 SV6 on Craigslist (asking $1000 cdn): The owner says that the Van starts & then instantly shuts down..

My Pop says that he read online: That he wants me to put my code reader on it (thinking that my OBDII will show something)
He is under the assumption that it was caused by someone trying to start the van with a non-chipped key.

What should I be looking for *IF* I go look at this van?

is the security light on? if you use the correct key it will start even if someone used the wrong key.
see what codes you get on your scanner
if it starts with starter spray I would suspect a fuel problem
