i bought the suv a month ago cause lady said it needed a headgasket.i am a decent 20 yr mechanic so within 10 minutes i found the water pump to be the issue.impellar worn.replaced that and zero overheating issues but the temp gauge was freaking out as well as the fuel pump would kick on sometimes without the key even in the car or ignition.the motor runs like a new one,no rapps no taps,no stutters or sputters.it does keep kicking a code for knock sensor input.the alternator was getting hot and battery kept going dead so i replaced the alternator.still having the error code come in ,fuel pump kick on by itself and temp gauage wraped.today i pulled out the engine compartment fuse box and it had antifreeze standing in it.could this be the cause of all the eronious electricall problems im experiancing and how do i remedy the problem?the car allway fires right up and purrs like a kitten.also goes down the road with plenty of power and zero issues other than the codes, fuel pumpkicking on and temp gauage going nuts.i also replaced the thermostat and temp sensor.must be that it burped antifreeze outa holding tank and got into fuse box now shorting things out.cant be computer as it runs and drives flawless

You have to determine how antifreeze ended up in the fuse box and yes I would imagine it could cause strange electrical problems.
what codes are you getting?

the antifreeze got into the fuse pannel because the the resivior cap failed and on this car the overflow exits right beside the fuse pannel.so it got splashed into the fuse pannel.that issues will not happen again now but im trying to figure how to clean the fuse pannel or is it shot now because the anti freeze got into it.spiting code p0327 knock sensor input ,(electrical malfunction).the temperature guage pins out to high, the fuel pump will turn on by itself sometimes with the key out of the car and knowbody in it.,when you open the door the digital odometer will light up for a minute then go out,the door open buzzer sometimes stays on with key out of ignition. It acts like its posessed with the random electrical issues its showing but it runs drives and shifts like a new car.has 142k on it.

"..i'm trying to figure how to clean the fuse pannel or is it shot now .

If this was me, I would use a shop vac
(I don;t think there should be enough suction to suck fuses out)
& go over all the surfaces. Then I would pull fuses out a section
at a time & vac again, then wipe fuse blades/prongs with rag to
deal with possible corrosion setting in...
I can't see the panel being shot

thats what i was thinking but there is a circut board under the fuses and i have a feeling that could have been damaged by the antifreeze.i have no idea how long its been sitting in there coroading things.I think im gonna try what u said but use some electrical contact cleaner on fuse blades.i have the fuse box removed from car now so i could match it up at a junk yard if needed or clean it up and give it another try.the only other thing acting wierd is the key switch where you put key in doesnt feel right and sometimes you have a really hard time gettn key out.i replaced the ignition switch and made no diference.the small electrical part on the backside of ignition.could something be screwed up inside where the key goes in causeing electrical issues??

Update

So,I located another fuse box from a salvage yard for 75.00.installed it and all the funky electrical issues and engine codes went away. Now the stabilitrack needs service light came in(wasnt before fuse box switch out)And feels like i have no power steering.I took it for a 20 mile ride and ran and drove like a new car.The only issues now are the stabilitrack light in and no power steering.ANYONE got any ideas?if i can get the stabilitrack light to clear i believe the electric power steering will come back. The car steered perfectly before fuse box swap and i had never seen the stabilitrack light on before.I checked all fuses and releays, every single power option, cruise control etc works as should.

you need a scan tool for ABS or have to check each wheels ABS sensor for correct resistance and no broken wire harness.

thanks

Thanks but i did some youtube research and it sounds like the mega fuse is blown causeing the stabilitrack and electric power steering not to work.those two thing were fine before i put the used fuse box in.havent had time to replace it yet but im sure thats what it is.Came from a junkyard so im sure it was either jumpstarted or blown while it was in a part out vehicle. Its a common issue with the mega fuse blowing when people jump start off the terminal on fuse box.It feeds power to power steerin and causes the stabilitrack needs service light to come.Abs system and sensor are just fine cause i didnt have these 2 problems before.I also took it for a 20 mile ride like it is and everything worked as should.

Problems solved

Fixed the problem with not having power steering and the stabilitrack service light on.It was a bad 80 amp mega fuse on the fusebox.all systems normal now and runs and drives like a new one.Only thing still happening is the temp guage pins out sometimes when its not over heating and when its cold.ive heard that a common issue in theee.stepper motor acting up.I know its not over heating so im not worried about that.
SO If you get the stablilitrak warning and lose power steering ,ITs the mega fuse blown and nothing else.Never jump start these off the post thats on the fuse box.use the battery terminals or you be sorry

great to hear you got it fixed that quickly, good luck with it.

Thank you very much.this is a great place to get answers and sugestions.sometimes you can get saved by yutube also.If your having issues chances are someone has allready been there and documented a video to bail you out.thanks to all on helping me get threw this past issue.

This whole thread is really giving me a lot of insight. I'm so glad you posted all of this. Thanks!
