i have a 2000 Pontiac Montana that has a 3400 SFI with 183416 miles on it. i just wonder what the life expectancy out the engine i should expect. i have had taurus in the past and the 3.5 engine usally need rebuilt around a 150k mile. basically i am trying see how much life is left in my motor. i know it needs mass, tps, and both o2 sensors. needs a trans and cooling system flushing plus a wheel hub as well. but with all isues in the drive train i am still getting 20.9 MPG Average.

I sold my 2000 about 2 yrs ago and it had 185,000 miles and still running strong no engine noise at all . the 3400 is not a powerful or speedy or not torque, it kind of fits in the middle of everything with good gas mileage. My old van(2000) and the current one (2003) I only change the oil maybe every 7000 miles or so ,so it seems pretty durable . alot of people have problems with the head and intake gaskets with the dexcool 2 antifreeze , so I think that is the weak spot.

I think you have alot of time and miles left in your engine just keep it full of fluids ,sounds like everything else is breaking around it. good luck gamer

ah cool, main issue with mine is i need new ac, collent flush trans flush, mass air, tps, and some 02 sensors. one thing i noticed is sometimes its very sluggish and other like yesterday at very little throttle it spun both tires. i think its irgularty is being cased by the mass air and tps.

Mine has 265,000 miles and does not smoke or knock and has very good power. I'm pretty sure it got oil changes frequently with quality oil. I know the head gaskets have been replaced at least once. I am not the original owner but was told the engine itself has never been replaced. It now runs a little rough at idle and has poor mpg but I'm hoping it just needs a sensor or something. Of course the type of driving is a huge factor as well. City vs hwy. I'd say mine has a lot of highway. City miles are not kind.
