ok so i have been reading on different forums and the sounds of making a pontiac 350 into a 383 stroker do not seem all that hard and even kits have been made to do this. all anyone is suggesting though is to talk to Pacific Perfromance Racing. I have not been able to get ahold of them through phone or by email. I am wanting to use the 350 just because it is the engine that i have and the one that the car came with. If I put in some new pistons, connecting rods and bigger heads that breathe better, and raising the compression ratio is this going to make a significant increase in power? any info is greatly appreciated. thanks

You are confusing the Pontiac 350 and the Chevrolet 350. The Chevrolet 350 can have a Chevrolet 400 crank inserted resulting in a Chevrolet 383. So do you have a Pontiac or Chevrolet engine?

I went to Pacific Performance Racing site and see they offer the correct crankshaft for what you want to do, they must grind it themselves. It also specifies Big Block Chevrolet rod journals so it sounds like you need to buy everything from the crank up, crank, rods, pistons. I'm sure with a good set of heads this would make a big difference. While your at it you should look into converting from 2 bolt mains to 4 bolt mains.

well my misunderstanding. that is what i am trying to do. find some options or anyone who has done this before to bore the pistions. is there someone who makes a kit for this? i have talked to a few shops in my area and everyone tells me just to get a 400. am i waisting time with the 350?

I would compare the price of the parts to upgrade the 350 versus the price of a complete 400 or even better 455 short block. The crank is $295, the rods are $240, main bearings $65, connecting rod bearings $70, pistons $468, rings $125. Thats $1,263, you may be able to buy a 455 for less.

This is why PPR is not answering your email or phone

Ken Brewer, who owns PPR, announced he is going out of business. You can also get Pontiac 350 stroker kits at Butler Performance http://www.jbp-pontiac.com/products/engines_assemblies.html For the same price as rebuilding or stroking out a 350, you can do the same to a 400 or 455. Its up to you what you want to do. I think it would be a cool thing to do. Others would say get a 400 or 455.
