I am going to put the 3800sc in my 85 soon. first off does any one know where i can get one? Then second, what should i do or upgrade to get my baby ready for it.

getrig 5 speed, muncie 4 speed, or automatics 86 and up for a 2.8 model

Think I'll go with the getrag 5 speed. The 4 speed i have now was slipping real bad last time i drove it, its a sure bet the horsepower boost from a new engine would destroy it.

For automatic you can use the 4T65HD (4-spd auto) these are the easiest to use since this is the transaxle that they are hooked to already.

For manual there is the 4-speed (if yours is slipping its the clutch which would get replaced anyways) the 5-speed, or the 6-speed from a Pontiac G6.

Found a '97 3800 super cheap, but I'm curious about the year. Is there any difference between model years and the performance of the 3800? Would an '01 3800 from the GTP be better than a '97 3800?

1995 and earlier the 3800SC had 225hp (series I)
1996 thru 2004 they had 240hp (series II)
2004-2007 they had 260hp (series III)
