I purchased a restored 1972 Pontiac LeMans with a 400 engine. Looks and run good but how do I determine the type of cam it has. Some say 3/4 cam but how do I now without disassembling the engine? It has a nice lope to it but I just want to know.

I always wondered how people came up with the term full race cam and 3/4 cam etc. It basically is meaningless. A "full race" cam in a small V8, say a 326, wont be a "full race" cam in a 455. So back to your question, it is almost impossible to tell without paperwork or tearing apart the engine. The only thing you can do is install a dial indicator and remove the valve covers and start measuring valve opening and closing and the amount of lift. Even that wont tell you who made the cam. Wish I had a better answer and good luck with your new car.
