Hey guys,

Just touching back. I had recently taken my 400 down to a Short block and distributor. I have found marks on the deck infront of the cylinder. There was 1 letter infornt of each cylinder. (only checked one side) and I`m afraid of it being bored out already. I know for sure the tranny was rebuilt so that makes me think the engine was at the same time. we will be boring it out because of being very glazed and no cross hatch left. (I know you can deglaze and hone the walls but we are boring either way).

The only way I can think of finding out if it has been rebuilt is measuring the diameter. Is there anything els eI should be aware of?

As you stated it has to be measured to determine if work has already been done. Look at the crank and rod bearing shells to see if there is a stamp on them indicating they are oversize inaddition to measuring the crank.

Took a look at the pistons and they are GM stamped products. Looks like shes been at the 6k line though a few times. Shows all signs of a virgin block.
