Ok so I have a 2004 Pontiac Montana.
the transmission just shot itself in the foot one could say and sent a piece of it's differential through the case extension from what I could see one of the pinion gears split in half and got jammed and broke through the case.

could I replace the case extension, install a new diff and do a flush or should I start looking for a used transmission?

here is a picture of the damage.

Your link does not work. Dont think a flush would get all the debris out of the transmission, would replace the whole unit unless you are willing to do your own overhaul.

Ok time for an update, I have picked up a good used transmission from my local bone yard, now I am going to rebuild the transmission befor I install it.

My question is what is the best brand to use for the parts as I don't want to go cheap but I don't want to just go wasting money that doesn't need wasting.

So what brand for the internals and what brand should I be using for a filter, also are there any tips on making the transmission last?

For a street vehicle a NAPA overhaul kit should be fine.

I imagine I would be replacing the clutch's the bands, and probably most if not all bearings and seals, my main goal is to get another 100k miles out of this van befor I buy my next.
