I owned this car when I left college in 63 and enjoyed it proudly for over three years. When I left the Army and moved to LA I had a real problem on the rainy freeways with those old bias tires that were common in the day. Slippery as hell.
I've thought lately about finding and buying an old 63 again and take a trip down memory lane. When I look at the ones available on Hemmings and elsewhere I've noticed they all have the gear shifter installed on the transmission tunnel. I could swear I remember the shifter being a small lever at the bottom of the dashboard. Am I imagining things or did it turn out that due to some kind of inherent problem owners ended up moving the shifter because of a failure of the original design?
Edit: Nevermind. I just watched avideo on YT of one for sale and it had the shifter where I remembered it; on the lower dash on the right left of the radio.
