OK! I did the initial check-up of the '66 Lemans which I just bought last week to restore.

The car has difficulty starting and the mechanic recommended a carburetor rebuild and suggested if we are doing that might as well do an upgrade.

Attached are pics of the items we are installing for the '66 Lemans:
1. Holley 600 CFM 4 barrel carburetor with Electric choke and Vacuum Secondary.
2. Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold.
3. Manifold gaskets
4. Valve cover gasket.

The carb cost $320 and intake manifold was $280.

Anyone here with experience installing this type of upgrade and words of advice?

It depends on what your goals are. Restoring it to factory condition or modifying things. A carburetor rebuild is a lot cheaper than carb and manifold change. Sounds like you have already committed to the change.
What carburetor came with the car?
Are you doing it or the mechanic?
If you are doing it follow the instructions carefully and on the intake make sure you snug the intake to water pump bolt before tightening the rest of the intake bolts.
I dont see an air cleaner, what are you going to use?
Did the mechanic check the rest of the engine including compression test, checking plugs, cap, rotor, plugs, and plug wires?

Melsg5,

I plan to drive this car so I will stick with the higher performance carburetor, keeping the original just in case I sell the car to a buyer who wants to keep things original.

A mechanic is doing the job but I will take pictures and post here.

Comp test done. Plugs, cap, rotor, wires are all being replaced.

What carburetor was on the car, a 2bbl or 4bbl? A Rochester or something else?
