Hey all, am doing timing chain and gears on my 67 Catalina. It has the 400 in it and, as far as I have always known, dont you bring #1 to top dead center on compression stroke then line the dot on the cam gear at the 6 position and the crank at 12? I have googled this and some say cam at 12, crank at 12. What is the CORRECT way? 12 and 6 or 12 and 12?? Thanks

the factory manual shows 12 and 12

It doesn't matter 6 or twelve , if you want to see for yourself put a breaker bar on the crank nut and rotate the crank it will end up 12 and 12 and 12 and 6 .

OK. Thanks guys. I just brought # 1 to top dead center, made sure rotor was at # 1 position and the marks lined up at 12 and 6. I figured, timing was correct where it was because it ran like it should and I didnt spin anything so, no worries. Put back together and she runs fine. Guess you only have to really worry about it if you spin the crank or cam like if you are replacing cam or something of that nature.
