I am removing the B&M shifter put in by the previous owner, and putting the original T handle back.
IIRC, there should be a metal mounting bracket attached to the front on the trans tunnel, that the front of the shifter mounts to.
There is nothing there right now.
The PO kinda made a mess of the tunnel when he put the B&M in there.
Right now, I can bolt the rear of the shifter down, but the front just hangs in the air.
Anyone have a pic of the trans tunnel where the shifter mounts, just to refresh my memory?
Maybe a pic of the shifter too, just so I can be sure the shifter is not missing something?

Thanks

download a copy of the GTO parts catalog from www.amesperf.com . Then look for "shift porches". I believe that is what you need.

It says those are for manual trans.
This is an auto.

I hope these pics are clear enough to see what I have.

Just seems like there should be something supporting the front of the shifter.

do you have part R157M automatic floor shifter mounting bracket?
if you can get a copy of the Parts and Illustration Manual page 4-73, the image only shows the one bracket on the back of the shifter

I just have what you see.
I will take a look at the catalog when I get home.
Thanks.

Ok, I checked the part #.
No, I am pretty sure I do not have that, and that is what I was envisioning.
That has to be what is missing, providing it is for the front of the shifter.
Does not specify.
I was not coming up with anything on my searches.
Thanks for the help.

it bolts to the back of the shifter and the transmission tunnel.

Aha! I figured it out.
There are 3 bolts on top of the shifter that secure it to the inside of the console.
Too easy.
No other mounts needed.

i actually was wondering if the console provided the rest of the support since one bracket didn't make sense, glad you got it together.

Yeah, unfortunately the cable bracket does not work with the aftermarket pan, and the cable appears to be too short anyway.
It was originally a 6 cyl car, and now has a V8 and a T400.
Back to square 1.

shift cable bracket still available R157L from Ames, the cable listings arent too clear so you may want to call

I used the center hole on the bracket, and it works. It's just on there with one bolt.
I think it will stay.
It can't wiggle, so I will go with it until there is a problem.
