I have a 71 Lemans which yesterday refused to start. Battery is fine but every time I try to start her up the TEMP light comes on. If I had been driving her around it would make sense to me that it would come on if she was in danger of overheating but it's 40deg outside and she's standing still. I want to start working on her myself especially after getting a new engine put in a few months ago so any advice is more then welcome!

When you say it wont start do you mean it wont turn over or it does turn over but wont ignite? If it wont ignite, have you pulled a spark plug wire off a plug and inserted an insulated screwdriver into the wire end, held the metal shaft of the screw driver near metal and while having someone turn the key see if a spark jumps from the screwdriver to the metal? have you looked down the throat of the carburetor and opened the throttle to see if gas squirts into the barrels?

All the "Idiot" Lights should come on with the ignition on and the car not running. So I would not get distracted by the Temp Light Coming on.
If the car will not crank, and you have good battery voltage (12 TO 14 VOLTS)
I try tapping lightly on the starter housing (not the starter Soliniod) It was very common for one of the starter's brushes to "hang up" and tapping on the starter body will knock it into position. I just had to do this on my 69 Firebird a couple of weeks ago. Almost forgot about it. I used to carry a broom handle with me years ago after getting stranded one winter day.
Just be careful not to tap with something metallic near the wiring.
