My car is very original, still with the cast iron manifold and 2 barrel carburetor. I am very happy with the performance as it is. My lemans was missing badly when it warmed up so I installed a new O.E.M coil and the problem went away. I have since considered replacing my points and condenser to electronic. Is there any advantage to installing an electronic distributor conversion kit? or would I be wasting my time and money considering this is not race car, it is an original cruiser. Thanks for your input.

In your case the only advantage is you would never have to replace/adjust the points once you switch over. I would also check the condition of the spark plug wires using an ohmmeter. You should have no more than 1k of ohms per foot of wire. Checking the condition of the cap and rotor would also be advisable.

Thanks for your time and consideration. I have done some research, is there a points to electronic that does not require pulling / reinstalling the distributor?

I'm unaware of a conversion that does not require removing the distributor

Electronic ignition

After further research and consulting with Pertronix engineers, I ordered the Pertronix 1181LS which is lobe sensing and does not require removal of a single point distributor. If it was double point the 1181 would have been required and the distributor removed for installation. I also ordered the Pertronix 40011 Flame Thrower coil which the engineers stated was recommended but not required. Both seem to be working well.

I put a GM HEI distributor in my 72 Lemans that had Points. I went this route because i put alot of miles on my car in the short summers we get here. 12k miles on points then adjust isnt bad either. But if i break down somewhere in another state i can get ignition parts at any real or fake auto store.Billions of cars made with HEI,well a million at least. The Red Boxes people love and any aftermarket "Race Type" part is Not for me. My Lemans was a 2bbl th400 with a 68 GTO 3:55 That 2bbl would SMOKE the tires! Its a alot bigger motor now but i should've left it a 2bbl for the driving we do. But if i drive it like someone my age should i get about 22mpg on the highway. I can live with that.
