Wanting some suggestions for an old family car im trying to get running again. Its gonna be a slow build as i'm limited on funds (aren't we all) and mechanic experience (me and my boyfriend are just gonna be winging it) fingers crossed lol. I rebuilt the trans myself already and luckily it was the turbo hydromatic 350 with the case that also accepts the gm 350. I was originally gonna keep the car completely original but im starting to stray. was thinking about doing an ls swap instead just because of how easy they are to come by for parts. but im gonna be honest. i really dont know how to check what is compatible and what isnt, rear end gearing, drive shafts and which tail the trans should have if i swap anything ect... every time i bring it up anywhere a Pontiac enthusiast basically calls that an abomination and doesn't give any helpful advice. so if anyone out there that has done it before and can lead me in the right direction on how to go about it I would be most grateful. I dont seem to have many good engine mechanics where im at or id be more willing to just have a full rebuild done on my original motor. im not super confident in doing it myself as ive only rebuilt 1 sbc 350 before. plus i dont know what cams are good for pontiacs and ect.... im trying to restore it as much as possible and have the front clip off already. gonna pull the motor and trans out soon so i can clean the engine bay up and start on my front disc brake conversion and just go from there. but any tips or tricks that you guys know would be most helpful! thanks yall!
