Hi everyone, having some trouble,

Its a 75 firebird esprit with a 350 Pontiac motor. Edelbrock performer intake and 4 barrel carb, headers, and a compcam XE262H-10 cam

The problem
When starting from cold the engine runs very rough (only on a few cylinders) until it warms up (I believe this to be because of the performance cam?) but some times its so bad that it seems as if the choke is not doing anything at all. And it gets worse, if you keep trying to start it, it turns over and fires on a few cylinders but wont run. the choke plate is set with the correct gap in the on position, there is good fuel pressure as once it is on all 8 it runs perfectly. The fuel mixture is fairly lean but set when the engine is running correctly as was the timing. Surely this cant just be the cam? yesterday I went to start it in the morning and it fired up on a few cylinders but by holding the accelerator down I could keep it running for a bit before it died, after that it would fire but not run. I thought that perhaps it could be flooded and checked the plugs (which are new) some where wet and some were dry, so I dried them off left it for an hour and tried again, still the same problem. After having the carb set up by a specialist, a new set of plugs, check the choke settings, check the fuel pressure, check the timing, on an engine that has only been in the car a year since being rebuilt, I am stumped! Anyone had this problem or know what is the next thing to try?

Cheers.

Could it be flooding? try opening up the choke plate after it starts. If it smooths out, open the choke pulloff a little

What carburetor is on the car?
Did the carb specialist adjust the carburetor on the car?
