81 T/A Brakes question.

Hey guys, so im working on getting the full brake system replaced.

Just want to make sure I have my list right.

Front:
Rotors
Pads
Inner/outer ball bearings
seals
(calipers depending on how bad these are)
ss brake lines


Rear:
drums
hardware kit
shoes
wheel cyclinder hubs
ss brake lines

Extra:
Master cylinder
Brake Booster??

This is an 81 that has lived mostly in a garage for the last 10+ years, however it is in great shape. Just doesnt stop right now.
 
why are you replacing everything without checking first whats needed?
 
If your rotors and drums are still in spec but are glazed or what ever, just get them machined. Even a mechanic told me that the OEM stuff is way better than ordinary equipment. (of course probably not this wilwood, and high performance brakes being an exception). I would look over everything to make sure they need replaced first, like he said. I`m going to guess master, and brake lines are the most oblivious to needing replaced, as well as pads/shoes.

If there is any oil on the pads or shoes. Replace them, oil makes them grab.
 
On the master if it holds pressure, dont do anything.
If it's bad disassemble and check the condition of the bore. If highly pitted replace otherwise get a rebuild kit.

This is from my experience, but the mechanic I had brought to had said don`t bother with that kind of stuff. I had got my master cylinder for around like $40 or so new from store. Not sure about rebuild kits.
 
brake line bender tool :eek: your going to need one of theses if you want it to look nice in there.
Auto zone for the master cylinder.
 
If you're going to rebuild the brake system, it might not be a bad idea to replace the master cylinder and the booster. If original, those parts are 34 years old and the seals in the master cylinder can dry rot causing brake fluid to leak into the booster, which in turn causes the diaphram to swell and not hold vacuum.

If you decide to get a new master cylinder, make sure the parts store orders the correct one. 1981 was the first year the "new" style master cylinders were used. Some of the parts stores lump 1981 with 1979-80 cars not realizing that there was a change.
