how do I tighten my E-Brake? I have a 1982 Trans Am, that needs to have the E Brake tightened. Please help!!!!

If you look above the transmission in the tunnel, there should be an adjuster where the two cables fron the wheels come together with the cable from the ebrake handle. Just tighten the adjuster. Spray it with some penatrating oil beforehand, it will help. Good luck.

thank you so much. would you recommend putting it on jack stands, or is it located in an easy enough area that I can get to it from under the car? I am 16, 6 foot 3, and 150 pounds. I am quite skinny as you can Imagine, so I can slide right under the car. :D

thanks again

Always use Jack Stands when working under the car. it is fairly easy to get at, but you need to be under the car.

Is this a rear disc brake set-up or is it drum brakes on the rear? If it is drum brakes chances are the brakes need adjusted themselves and not the e-brake cables. You'll need to adjust the star wheel located at the bottom of the brake shoes right between the 2 of them. There should be a slot cut in the backing plate at the bottom. Some are just a stamped cutout that will need to be knocked out before adjustment. Jack the car up and rest the rear on jack stands so both rear tires are off the ground. Put the car in neutral then using a small flat blade screwdriver, turn the starwheel by inserting it through the slot in the backing plate. You'll want to adjust until there is a small amount of drag when turning the wheel.

If it is a disc setup. Make sure the e-brake levers are resting against their stops with the e-brake released. If you make adjustments to the cables don't adjust to where it pulls the levers away from their stops.
