My 86 fiero sat for about 6 months without being started and now is not running. Prior to it's sitting nothing was wrong with it and it ran fine. The problem is that the car will not turn over. I have replaced the battery and the ignition coil. With the new battery i get power to the car but it still will not turn over. At first i thought it had something to do with the ignition but then i tested the solenoid and hear it clicking just not turning. So my question is might it be the solenoid or starter and if not what should i be looking for?

have you checked the battery ground connection to the car?

As stated above check the grounds first. There should be 2 grounding straps. One is located near the passeneger side decklid hinge and goes to the engine head. The second is on the bottom driver side frame rail and goes to a bolt on the trans and engine mounting points. They may be there but could be corroded from sitting. If you have an ohm meter you can measure resistance from the engine block to the negative battery post. This should be less than 2 ohms. If there, clean them and their mounting points with a wire brush.

Also sometimes older starter motors can get "dead spots" on the starter motor. So the solenoid will push the starter gear in but the motor won't spin. Sometimes you can get the car to start by having someone turn the key and tapping on the starter motor. Even if this works you need to replace the starter as the "dead spots" will get worse.

Hope these two suggestions help.
