'86 Firebird rear brake lights

Hi everyone

It appears that I have a little problem with my '86 Firebird. Whenever I press the brake pedal, the interior lights dim, indicating a short circuit somewhere. The 20A fuse also dies when that happens (although sometimes it doesn't, completely random). Luckily the car is not out on the streets as I'm doing quite some things with it at the moment, but I have to fix the rear brake lights, otherwise I can't get out on the streets when done.
Does anyone know if this is a common issue, or has anyone experienced it before? I am hoping to find a solution that doesn't force me to take the whole cables out, as that would be a lot of extra work, and I don't want to damage any other cables.

You state the 20a fuse dies, does that mean it blows and you have to replace it everytime? Start by removing all the tailight bulbs and seeing what happens. Check for corroded sockets or anything else that might have deteriorated over time. Check the condition of the brake light switch also.

Thanks for the advice! With the fuse dieing, I mean it blows. Also, when just turning the rear lights on, it works fine.
