help!!? i have changed my fuel pump 4 times in the last 6 months because 2 of the 3 mechanics i took it to did not do the job correctly but the last time i am sure it was done right, now 3 months after that i am having problems again, my car is not priming and i am not getting fuel pressure. i have had no problems with it until last night and it would not start at all so i had to have the car towed home. this morning my car fired up once and then it died. any suggestions? my engine is a 6cylinder just so you know!

I would try changing the fuel pump relay also look for chewed wire from animals

if the fuel pump was replaced by the same mechanic you are being scammed... there is probably something else going wrong in addition to the fuel pump which is contributing to the fuel pump breaking so often..... I would make a call to the guys on car talk, they really know their stuff quite well! Find out when you can call in next and they'll know exactly whats wrong....

A little more info, could help. Is it fuel injected or does have a carbureator? If fuel injected you could have clogged injectors ,if carbureated it could have problemsthere. Change your fuel filter, possibly your fuel pressure regulator.

Before you start it, replace the fuel filter. Then cycle ignition to on (not start) - off - on - off a few times to get the gas all the way to the front of the car.

Q: What's that buzzing noise coming from the hatch area?

A: This is probably the fuel pump which is located inside the gas tank. It's a common noise, even among some 3rd gen owners. There's really not much which can be done about it with the exception of replacing the pump and hoping you get a quieter one.

Has the fuel filter been changed???

Start the car. Look/smell for leaks. Go get gas before you fry this fuel pump. May want to add a bottle of fuel system cleaner for the he11 of it.
