91 Firebird Thermostat help please!?!?!?

Hi, have 1991 Firebird with 305 V8. Car has started overheating and the heater doesnt work anymore, I am thinking this is the thermostat and am going to go buy a new one, is this easy to change out? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Yes a thermostat is not that hard to change. However you may only be low on coolant. Be sure and check your coolant level before taking your engine apart. The first signs of low coolant is a loss of heat from your heater or defrosters. I you do have the proper coolant level then I would also say bad thermostat. In that case buy one that is called a fail safe thermostat. They will only fail in the open position if they do fail and protect your engine from over heating
