The radio lights up and seems to work but no sound. There is faint static from all speakers. I checked the fuses under the dash they seem ok. I inherited this car so no knowledge of it. Any ideas?

Could be the antenna or an internal problem with the radio.

Anyone know what the part number is for the radio receiver box located behind the radio control head with the buttons? that part, the part with the buttons, works ol. the speakers work, and I replaced the antenna. Now, I can hear a couple of Stations on AM. The Audio people (who just want to sell me something new) said that it is the tuner/amp/reciever part . If I knew the part number, I could find it. Any tutorials available on how to remove the factory radio unit? Posting a pic of the one I have.

its the one with the cassette deck. can't seem to upload the file.

Best off getting a junkyard one or replacing the whole thing with a modern unit....Same thing happens on the 1988-92 Chevy /GMC trucks, receiver goes bad...and all you get is AM in low volume...( Currently happening on my truck but I don't listen to music while driving anyway)

Try Www.Crutchfield.Com for a modern replacement with all the stuff to do it yourself...

www.car-part.com or www.row52.com to find factory used stuff...

thanks Doug! I found a whole system from a wrecked car on Ebay, now praying it will work. I just have to figure out how to get the thing apart. I'm just an old lady, not a mechanic, but I used to have a 65 Mustang that I tinkered with long ago. It's been years, but I'm gonna try.
