Hi, I am working on a 91 Trans Am for a charity raffle and the rear trunk pull down motor is not working. I have power out of the relay. I am told that there is a switch somewhere in the latch assembly but I do not know where it is. If anyone can tell me where it is I would appreciate it. If I find the switch is ok then I can replace the motor. Thanks for your help

yeah those motors if I remember correctly had a clear plastic gear housing that would break. it shouldn't take too long to inspect it.

Napa even sells just the housing if that is all you need.

It has been way too long for me to remember if the latch has a switch.

But going from what little I remember I almost always had to replace the motor. back in the day. they did not offer just the housing.

Hi I pulled this diagram from AutoZone

here is a video on how to service the motor and or replace the housing.

https://youtu.be/xSE5Dx4Oa0Y

I think the trunk release button is mounted in the center console or glove box.

In the video they mention a cracking sound when installing the screws, they claim this is normal.

I feel if you run the screws into the plastic all in one shot too quickly you will hear more cracking then if you screw it in slightly then back the screw out to remove any built up shavings.

Then reinsert the screw, tightening it up more each time, you may have to do this a few times in and out to prevent from the shavings from building up inside the screw hole expanding and braking fragile plastic.

If the deck lid struts are wore out and do not support the weight properly make sure to replace them. if you do not and the deck lid slams shut even once all your work may be for nothing.

I good test for the struts is. once you pop open the deck lid with the key or release button the deck lid should raise automatically.

If they do not raise up automatically replace them. like the video shows make sure to buy the correct ones for the options the car may have.

i looked for a owners manual on the Pontiac site but they do not have once for the 1991
