92 Pontiac Sunbird stopping problem

When I go to stop my car does a kind of shudder and roll thing with a jolt at the end of the stop. I thought it was a brake problem but replacing the brake pads didn't help. A friend of mine said it feels like its not down shifting correctly. its an automatic by the way. Any ideas?
 
put it in neutral before stopping and see if it does the same thing, if it does it's not the transmission
 
So I tried that and it still did it while stopping in neutral. Any suggestions from here?

have your rear brakes and suspension checked
 
your original post didnt say which end of the car, since it wasnt the transmission I assumed your rear brakes were locking up or the rear suspension was bouncing. So have the front checked, the internet can only do so much in answering questions. You need a qualified mechanic to actually look at the car.
