93 firebird engine upgrade

I want to upgrade my engine but not sure what i could do that will still pass smog. I really want a newer LS2 but not quite sure if I would be able to do that. Also wondering what else I should upgrade to keep the extra horsepower from tearing my car apart.

hard to answer your question without knowing which engine is in the car now, V6 or V8? In addition without knowing what your state regulations are cannt tell you what you can do. If you can provide more detail, happy to try and help you.

You can only use parts that are CARB compliant and can only install a newer engine with all it's related components. This link explains some of it

LS engine and harness, It's a common upgrade. The transmission and rear end are not the strongest either. If the motor is stock, you will be fine.
