94 Pontiac sunbird tries to die in 1st and...

...reverse...? ya, its an automatic and when i start out and im accellerating it does fine, but when i let off of the accelerator it like shutters down and the engine gets quiet and the lights dim (if its at night) sometimes it dies but most of the time i can feather it back to normal, any ideas as to whats wrong?

(ps, reverse dies easyer than 1st)

tps throttle position sensor. you should have a check engine light . no check engine light look for a vacum leak
