I checked the fuel pressure guage got fuel. The car just shut off like you turn the lights off on it.

What was the fuel pressure reading?

The fuel reading was normal. I pulled timing belt housing off to see if the belt was worn and it's in good shape I'm just at a complete stand still my first car n it's already pissing me off lol.

It turns over n when it goes to start it back fires. What got me puzzled is it just shut off didn't chug then cut out it just died.

Check the very bottom of the timing belt, Mine looked good all the way around but on the bottom near the crank pulley, all the teeth of the belt were gone.

i just did a spark test and cylinder 3 firing order #2 is not getting spark what would cause this issue im searching google and i am not getting anything. any help? and i am just going to change the timing belt any way just to be sure.

CPS ( crank position sensor) could be bad or the ignition module which is a $200 part. ( hopefully its not it)

Are you getting any spark on any cylinders? ( hard to tell from your descriptions)

I'm getting spark on all but one cylinder #3 is not getting spark/power. And I didn't check to see if the belt was turning but cylinder 3 is not getting spark from the coil pack it's self so I'm not sure if it's the ignition control module or something else. And not fond of spending 200-600$ on a part if I don't need it lol.

I believe you have two coils switch the coils, if the problem moves with the coil, the coil is bad.

Call AutoZone ( they may be able to test it for you if you bring it in).

Go to a Junkyard to get another , beats paying $200 +

Yeah Mel, seen that also, cant find anything on the old 2.0 OHC's , thats the coil I had on my 2000 S10, never changed it even after 226K miles in the desert heat. Same as a 2.2 Cavalier...................

OP may need to buy a Haynes manual if Autozone doesnt test it , mine is still buried in all my boxes.

Autozone can test the coil while in the car or separately? And my car has one unit and it's the coil pack and ignition control in one unit. So far every parts store is 200$ lowest 600$ highest for that part. I know advanced auto parts can search salvage yards. They may have it.. I hope lol. But when it was running it ran really rough and the oil light flickered but never stayed on and the battery light would come and go. So I'm really puzzled
