95 sunfire problems

my friend has a 95 sunfire and he is having issues with the windows and the truck release. we are going to work on it and I would like to get some help on what to check. the truck release opens but does not want to shut all of the time. I am not sure if it is the latch or not. for the winows, only the front passagener side works. the rest of them go down but do not go up.when he uses the buttons, it goes about a inch and then stops. he hits the button again and it goes up an inch and then stops. I am not sure what to check here. could it be the center cluster? is there something in the door itself that is causing the issue? I am thinking the cluster since it is doing it for 3 out of the 4 windows. not sure if this can be taken apart and cleaned
 
It sounds like you have to adjust the trunk latch. You can try spraying electrical contact cleaner on the switches to see if this improves the situation. Otherwise try replacing one switch to see if that helps.

from what I remember, the switches are in a cluster in the center console. do they come out one by one? what do you mean by replacing one by one?
 
I have no picture of the switches, so I cannt tell if they are a single unit or separate. In either case try the cleaning process first. The other possibility is a window relay cutting out when you try to move the windows.
 
Sounds like the breaker is tripping and resetting. Try lubing the window mechanism.
 
sounds like I would have to take the door off. is this a big deal? it is not my car so I don't want to break anything. anyhting that I have to watch out for?

what do you use to lube the windows. is this wd40 or is there something else that you use for this
 
the geared part of the window mechanism uses white grease, the weatherstrip should be sprayed with silicone

any problem with removing the door panel that I need to know. like I said this is a friend's car and I do not want to break anything. he is having problems with 3 of the 4 windows. the only one that works is the passenger front.
 
Get all the screws and be carefull with the plastic barbed connectors.

well, we took the center cluster out and ripped it all apart and cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner. we put it back in and nothing changed. the windows will go down but when you try to put them back up, it goes a little bit and then stops. we are going to take a door panel off and try to see what is going on. we will probably have to get new motors.

any one know a good place to order the motors and any idea on the price for the motors?

took the door panel off on the drivers side to check out the motor. the motor is riveted to the door brace. can't really look at it or work on it. we checked a few things out and gave up. if he wants to go further, he is going to take it to a mechanic when he gets extra money.
