Timing belt broken and was replaced. Within a week, engine started knocking. Are there lifters with DOHC and if so, how many? Granddaughter had less than 3000 miles on it at the time and had already scheduled an oil change.

did you mean timing chain?
did you do a compression test after the chain broke and was replaced to check for any bent valves?
was the car taken back to the shop that did the chain?
the engine has 16 lifters

As you can see, I know little or nothing about cars. This is my granddaughters car and she know even less.

Yes, I meant timing chain. The timing chain broke and the shop fixed it. I don't know if a compression test was done after they replaced the chain, but I will ask. A day or 2 later, the car started knocking and it was taken back to the shop immediately. They replaced the lifters, did a compression test and every thing was fine at that time. They said the problem was in the bottom of the engine. It was not tore apart at that time. If the timing chain was not installed properly to the oil pump, how long would it take before the lower part of the engine would start knocking? Could it just be a coincidence that the oil pump went out within days of the timing chain?

how many miles on the engine? if debris from the chain went through the engine it would cause a similar problem. Why did they replace the lifters if it was a bearing knock?
